Our clients loved their neighborhood, but their South Seattle craftsman didn't match their aesthetic or their lifestyle. Avid skiers and trail runners, they wanted clean lines, decluttered rooms, and natural materials, without giving up color. The 1912 house lacked cohesion, had been through numerous renovations creating a patchwork of styles and finishes. The long, narrow layout felt stilted and galley-like, not the inviting place to host and unwind they had in mind.

We split the entry with a custom built-in, carving out a distinct mudroom and dining room while showcasing their art and books. It opens into a soapstone and oak kitchen with a custom dining nook off the back counter, perfect for passing along a hot bowl of soup. The nursery got the same treatment: bright and textural, pulled together with unique art, antiques, and vintage quilts.
